Document intelligence

Turn documents you already have into answers you can query

Not a search bar, a system that reads and reasons

Contracts, records, and reports pile up faster than anyone can read them. We turn what you already have into a system that can find a clause, summarise a set of records, or answer a question in plain language, built directly on your own documents rather than a generic model's training data.

Now vs automated

Why documents stay unsearchable

Now
01

Answers live in someone's memory

Whoever handled a contract or a case remembers the details, and everyone else has to ask them or reopen the file.

02

Finding one clause means reading the whole document

A contract, policy, or report has to be opened and scanned by eye, every time the same question comes up.

03

Scanned documents are effectively unsearchable

Anything that only exists as a scan or a PDF of a scan can't be searched by keyword, only found by whoever remembers where it is.

Searchable
01

Answers are queryable in plain language

Ask a question the way you'd ask a person, and get an answer drawn from the actual document, not a guess.

02

Every answer points back to its source

The passage or clause behind an answer is shown alongside it, so it can be checked, not just trusted.

03

Scanned and digital documents both become searchable

OCR turns scans into text first, so a filing cabinet of PDFs works the same way as a folder of Word documents.

What it can do

Document intelligence built on your own files

Four kinds of work cover most document intelligence engagements. What's underneath changes with your documents, the structure doesn't.

Contract and document search

Find a clause, a date, or a term across every contract you have, instead of opening them one at a time.

Structured data extraction

Pull specific fields, such as amounts, dates, or parties, out of documents that were never structured to begin with.

Summarisation

Turn a long report or a set of records into a summary you can actually read, without losing the details that matter.

Question answering

Ask a question in plain language and get an answer drawn from your documents, with the source passage shown alongside it.

How it works

How document intelligence is built

Five stages turn a pile of documents into something you can query.

01

Ingest

Documents come in as they are: PDFs, scans, Word files, or exports from another system. Nothing needs to be reformatted first.

02

Extract

Text is pulled out, including from scans through OCR, and structured well enough to work with.

03

Index

Content is split into passages and embedded so it can be searched by meaning, not just keyword.

04

Query and retrieve

A question retrieves the passages most likely to answer it, rather than the whole document set.

05

Answer with a source

An answer is drafted from the retrieved passages, with the source shown alongside it so it can be checked.

Your documents

What happens to your documents, and what doesn't

Document intelligence runs on files you consider sensitive by default. Here is exactly what that means.

What we ask for
The documents you want made searchable or queryable
Access to wherever they're stored, read-only where possible
Any existing structure, such as folders, tags, or metadata
Sign-off on who should be able to query which documents

Where documents contain information only some people should see, access can be scoped per user or per document set, not all-or-nothing.

What we commit to

We don't put your documents into AI tools that train on them. Where we use AI in our own processing, it runs on services configured so inputs aren't retained or used for training.

Documents stay on infrastructure you control or approve. Processing runs against files and storage you control, not a third-party tool you can't see into.

Every answer shows its source. So a person reviewing an answer can check it against the actual passage, not just trust the model.

You can revoke access or delete the index at any time. The underlying documents are always yours. What we build is a layer on top of them, not a replacement copy you lose control of.

If your compliance team needs specific handling for sensitive document types, tell us during scoping and we'll build to that.

Common questions about document intelligence

Document intelligence turns contracts, records, and reports into something you can search and query in plain language, instead of opening files one at a time. It combines document parsing, search, and a language model to answer questions and draw out specific details, with every answer pointing back to its source.
